On November 15, the Central Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan hosted the opening of a personal exhibition titled "A New Vision" by the painter, academician of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, and chairman of the country's Union of Artists, Ibrohim Valikhojayev. The exhibition featured 28 large-scale conceptual works.
The title of the exhibition, "A New Vision", creates an expectation of a fresh approach or meaningful innovation. However, upon examining the exposition, it is difficult to find a clear alignment with the stated concept. The presented abstract paintings stylistically echo the works of artists such as Piet Mondrian (1872–1944), Mark Rothko (1903–1970), and Kazimir Malevich (1879–1935). This naturally raises the question: what exactly is new here?
If the author aimed to conceptualize national identity through the interpretation of artistic movements, it deserves attention, but requires clearer explanation in the title.
Among the presented works, attention is drawn to the paintings "Ancient Garden", "Sea", "Amulet", "Renaissance", and "Legendary Bird". These works demonstrate a relatively original approach, avoiding direct repetition of the style of the artists mentioned earlier.
At first glance, one might critically view the attempts to replicate the style of famous abstract artists, but it must be acknowledged that, in this case, it was a bold step toward understanding abstraction. Such experiments expand the boundaries of creativity for other artists, removing unwritten limitations and providing an impulse for further exploration in art.
