Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona

Someone likes the great paintings of the Renaissance, while others are fascinated by the creations of 20th century artists. It is their masterpieces, as well as daring experiments and the flight of imagination of informals, that are presented in the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art.

This snow-white Art Nouveau building appeared in the city not so long ago - immediately after the end of the 1992 Olympics. The author of the project is American Richard Meyer. The pride of the museum is the work of Paul Cézanne and Pablo Picasso.

The main exhibition is located on the ground floor. It is regularly updated. Other, exhibition, halls - on the floors above - are led by a spiral staircase and ramps for people with disabilities.

The tour begins chronologically, from the 1st period (works born from the late 1940s to 1968). Among the unusual materials are marble chips, sand, acrylic paints. Conceptualists are presented in the section on the period from 1968 to the mid-1970s. In the art of rebel artists, there is a negative attitude towards the Franco regime.

The third period of the exhibition (which lasted until the end of the 1980s) illustrates how the line between different types of art is blurred and curious syntheses arise. Photography, metalworking, painting - an amazing mix!

The part of the collection of the museum, completing the chronology, belongs to the period from 1990 to the present day. It is distinguished by installations, use of audio and video recordings.

The working hours are as follows: weekdays (except Tuesday) - from 11 to 19.30 (from June 27 to September 24 - until 20 hours), Saturday - from 10 to 20 (Sunday and holidays - until 15). Every Tuesday (and also December 25 and January 1) is non-working days.
